Spring Front Porch

My front porch is seriously one on my favorite places on earth. As soon as I feel that first warm spring air, I ache to start planting my pots, and sit out there with a cold Dr. Pepper. Unfortunately, it takes quite a beating through the winter, and before I can even think about buying flowers, I need to give my porch a good clean up and refresh. Here is my spring porch/front door checklist:

  • Use a broom or long brush to get into all the ceiling corners and crannies, to remove any cobwebs, wasp nests etc from the area. This is much easier to do first while it’s dry.

  • Use a hose or pressure washer on the lightest setting to hose down the siding around your porch or front door. Optionally,  you can add siding cleaner to your presser washer for a deeper clean.

  • Scrub wood porches with either a pre made porch cleaner or a bucket of water and dish soap. I like to use a flat bristle brush on a broom handle. Hose off soapy mixture after scrubbing.

  • For concrete, you can also use a scrub brush, but pressure washing is your best best.

  • Take a bucket of warm soapy water and a soft brush or sponge to wash down your front door. Make sure to put a towel on the inside of the door in case of any water leaks. Call me crazy, but I also like to towel dry the door afterwards to prevent water spots.

  • Swap out your seasonal door mat, or sweep/beat your all season door mat.

  • Blow off or sweep off any outdoor furniture.

  • Do any repairs or paint touch ups on your front containers. This is the perfect time to give your front pots a new paint color refresh.
